U.S. MIDDLE EAST POLICY DATABASE

Editor, Prof. Barry Rubin

This database includes a number of articles I've written during an 20-year period to survey U.S. Middle East policy on a regular basis. Most of them were published in volumes of the Middle East Contemporary Survey, although not always precisely in the version presented here. The goal was to give the sequence and nature of events as objectively as possible, limiting analysis. The author has presented a more analytical view of this history in other publications, including such books as Paved with Good Intentions: The American Experience and Iran, Secrets of State: The State Department and U.S. Foreign Policy; Cauldron of Turmoil: America in the Middle East; and Revolution Until Victory: The History and Politics of the PLO, as well as in a number of articles.

Please do not reprint or reproduce these articles in their entirety without written permission to do so. You are welcome to use quotations from this material in your research and teaching, but please always give me proper notice of doing so and also proper credit. [That means, don't just steal the footnotes.] Corrections and suggestions for this database are welcomed.
