Combating Terrorism Center at West Point is announcing the
release of an open source catalogue: The Islamic Imagery
Project: Visual Motifs in Jihadi Internet Propaganda.
The project provides an analysis for one-hundred key motifs
that appear throughout the jihadists' visual propaganda.

The
European University Institute is announcing the opening of
the website of the MIREM project. MIREM stands for Migration
de retour vers le Maghreb, i.e., Return Migration to
the Maghreb, or "Collective Action to Support the Reintegration
of Return Migrants to their Country of Origin." The
MIREM project aims at examining the current challenges linked
to return migration and its impact on development. Analytical
tools will be devised to assess the factors that shape returnees'
patterns of reintegration in the Maghreb countries (i.e.
Algeria, Morocco, and Tunisia). All the information and data
produced by the MIREM will be made freely accessible with
a view to stimulating a constructive debate on this issue,

Writing
Opportunities
The
Center for Strategic Research of the Ministry of Foreign
Affairs, Turkey, is calling to submit manuscripts of original
papers (previously unpublished) for possible publication
in the Journal of Perceptions, No. 2 (2006). The
topic: Any subject related to international relations that
might be of interest for Turkish foreign policy. Deadline
for submission: October 10, 2006. An honorarium will be paid
for each article published in the quarterly. For further

The
Association for Israel Studies announces the Yonathan Shapiro
prize for the best book in Israel Studies published during
the calendar year 2006. This annual award honors the memory
of Shapiro (1929-97) by recognizing outstanding scholarship
in the history, politics, society, and culture of Israel
and pre-1948 Jewish Palestine. Authored books (not including
edited anthologies) published in English or Hebrew during
the calendar year 2006 are eligible for consideration. Nominations
should be made by the publisher of the book. The submission
deadline is January 15, 2007. The winner will be announced
in April and the prize will be awarded at the June 2007 meeting
of the Association for Israel Studies. One copy of each submission
should be sent to each of the members of the Shapiro Award

The
Association for Israel Studies announces the 2006 Ben Halpern
Dissertation Award in Israel Studies for dissertations submitted
between January 1, 2006 and December 31, 2006. The Award
committee will consider dissertations in the social sciences
and humanities, in either English or Hebrew. The deadline
for nominations is January 15, 2007. Dissertations must be
nominated by two recommenders familiar with the candidate's
work. The recommenders are expected to explain the work's
contribution to the study of the yishuv, Zionism,
or the State of Israel. Copies of the letters of recommendation
and of the dissertation itself should be sent to the Award
Committee members. The winner will be announced in April,
and the prize will be awarded at the AIS annual meeting in
