     The Council on Middle East Studies (CMES) at the Yale Center for International and Area Studies (YCIAS) announces an opening for a Visiting Scholar beginning July 1, 2004. Applicants must have a completed PhD, have thorough knowledge of Middle East studies, university level teaching experience, proficiency in one or more of the major languages of the region, and excellent English skills.      The Wissenschaftskolleg zu Berlin's Working Group, Modernity and Islam, in cooperation with the Swedish Institute in Alexandria, announces an international Summer Academy from August 29 - September 8, 2004 in Alexandria, Egypt entitled: "Literatures and Borders: Delimitations.      Journal of Human Rights is calling for papers for a special issue: "The Persecution of Christians in the World Today."  Welcoming contributions which offer case studies of areas and countries where Christian persecution is widespread.  Looking for serious scholarly inquiry into the nature of the problem and how it might be addressed in the future.      The National Endowment for Democracy (NED) is inviting applications to its Reagan-Fascell Democracy Fellows Program which enables democracy activists, scholars, and journalists from around the world to deepen their understanding of democracy and enhance their ability to promote democratic change. The Program is intended primarily to support practitioners and scholars from new and aspiring democracies although distinguished scholars from the United States and other established democracies are also eligible to apply.
