The Wissenschaftskolleg zu Berlin's Working Group Modernity and Islam invites applications for three postdoctoral fellowships for the project: Jewish and Islamic Hermeneutics as Cultural Critique for the academic year 2002-2003: Recitation and Aesthetics-Scripture and Exegesis. The fellowships are intended for scholars of religious studies and theologians from the Middle East and for researchers from other countries who specialize in Jewish, Islamic, and Oriental Christian traditions. Applicants must be familiar with hermeneutic and cultural-theoretical questions and methods. Fellows will receive a monthly stipend of 1,800 Euro (supplement for married Fellows: 250 Euro) and are obligated to work in Berlin. The fellowship is to take place: October 1, 2002 - September 30, 2003. Deadline for applications:

Call for applications for the Emmanual Naveh Scholarship. Two scholarships for 4,500 NIS each will be awarded to students working on their Masters thesis or Doctorate dealing with Islamic Law. Israel Affairs is planning to publish a special issue on the Israel and the Islamic World. The issue will subsequently be published as an edited
