The Center for Middle Eastern Studies at Harvard invites applications for the Ehsan Yarshater Visiting Fellowship in Iranian Studies, established to promote research in Iranian languages, literatures, religions, history, sociology, anthropology, art, and archaeology. The fellowship is to encourage scholars from Iran who are several years beyond the Ph.D. There is a stipend of $40,000 for the 2001-2002 academic year. The Carnegie Council on Ethics and International Affairs will sponsor up to five non-residential Fellows for the program year September 2001 - June 2002. The program is open to junior scholars, educators, writers and policy practitioners engaged in work related to the moral dimensions of international affairs. All fellows must be fluent in English. Fellowship proposals must show a clear linkage to one of the Carnegie Council's ongoing research themes: Human Rights, Environmental Values, The Future of Conflict Prevention, Justice and the World Economy, History and the Politics of Reconciliation. First call for papers for the Second Annual Conference of the Central Eurasian Studies Society, October 11-14, 2001 to be held at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Call is for the submission of paper proposals, and proposals for pre-organized panels, that concern Central Asian and Central Eurasian studies. These include: history, languages, cultures, and modern states and societies of the Turkic, Mongolian, Iranian, Caucasian, Tibetan and other peoples of the Black Sea region, the Crimea, the Caucasus, the Middle Volga region, Central and Inner Asia and Siberia, and teaching and research about these topics and area.
