Omar Awwad, <omawwad@excite.com> is looking for material about Arab cinema, particularly information about “West Beirut" by Ziad Doueiri and "The Tale of The Three Jewels" by Michel Khleifi, and children’s language in Arab cinema during wars.

Selahattin Kaya <tunahang@hotmail.com> is researching Middle East minorities and is looking for maps that show where different ethnic and religious minority groups live in individual countries and in the region as a whole.

Carol R. Saivetz <saivetz@fas.harvard.edu> has recently written a briefing paper on Russian President Putin's Caspian policy for Harvard's Caspian Studies Program. There's some mention of Iran in the paper as well. The Institute for the Study of Islam in the Modern World in Leiden and The Berlin-Based Working Group Modernity and Islam invite applications to an International Summer Academy for doctoral and postdoctoral researchers. The Summer Academy will be held in cooperation with the Orient-Institut der Deutschen Morgenlaendischen Gesellschaft, the Institut Francais Etudes Anatoliennes, the Swedish Research Institute, and the Netherlands Historical-Archeological Institute. Participants receive a stipend covering travel and accommodation expenses.
