IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENTS:  CALL FOR ARTICLES FOR MERIA JOURNAL, Vol. 4, No. 4 (December 2000). We are now seeking articles for the next issue of MERIA Journal. Please submit articles or proposals as soon as possible to Barry Rubin, editor <besa@mail.biu.ac.il>. Articles should be between 4,500 and 7,000 words, with endnotes in plain text at the end. MERIA Journal is the world's largest Middle East journal reaching the audience of those most interested and involved in the contemporary region.

Lebanese Studies Association's Best Paper Award. Entries should critically examine some aspect of Lebanon and Lebanese Studies, including but not limited to Lebanese history, culture, society, literature, art, film, architecture, and politics. CANMES--the Canadian Commmittee of the Middle East Studies Association--provides limited amounts of travel support for graduate students presenting papers at MESA 2000 and other Middle East-related conferences. CANMES methodology workshop for graduate students attending the November 2000 annual conference of MESA, exploring challenges faced by students undertaking thesis research in and on the Middle East.
