6. SCHOLAR'S AND AUTHOR'S ALERTS

Konuralp Pamukcu, <konuralp@mail.utexas.edu> presents, in his "Water Politics" (Istanbul: Baglam Publications, June 2000, in Turkish) an interdisciplinary analysis that assesses ecological, economical and political dimensions of water conflicts in international river and lake basins in general, and in the Euphrates, Tigris and Jordan river Basins in particular. The book not only identifies the complexity of environmental issues and necessity of an interdisciplinary perspective for thorough solutions but also delineates a set of possible projects to this end. In regard to the water scarcity in the Middle East, Pamukcu explores a wide range of possibilities for a water-related cooperation between Turkey, Jordan, the Palestinian Authority and Israel which includes regional water data bank, water bank, water market, re-use of urban wastewater, development of sustainable agricultural methods and food trade as instruments of demand-side water management; and desalination, transfer of the Manavgat waters as instruments of supply-side water management.
